Rega

The sound of a Rega is the sound of speed. While competitors were adding mass, Roy Gandy was taking it away, building his turntables on a radical philosophy: low mass and high rigidity. The goal was not to damp vibration, but to dissipate it instantly. Unwanted energy can't be stored in a plinth that is light, stiff, and fundamentally inert. The result is a sound that is nimble, energetic, and alive with a sense of forward momentum.

This design ethos was perfected in the iconic Planar 3. It was a defiant statement in minimalism—a simple, rigid plinth, a resonant glass platter, and one of the finest tonearms ever designed, the RB300. The presentation is the polar opposite of a heavy, brooding idler-drive. A Rega is quick on its feet, with a sharp, clean leading edge to notes and a palpable sense of excitement. It presents music with a directness and clarity that is utterly contagious.

For fifty years, Rega has focused on putting the cost into the parts that matter: the bearing, the motor, and above all, the tonearm. It’s a philosophy that continues to deliver a thrilling, high-performance sound that remains the benchmark for value in the world of high-fidelity audio.

Rega Planet

The radical first draft. The unique three-point platter was the first expression of Rega's "less is more" philosophy.
