KEF

From Kent, England, KEF (Kent Engineering & Foundry) has always been a company driven by science. From their early days pioneering the use of new materials like Bextrene for speaker cones, their goal has been the neutral, uncolored reproduction of sound. This is the sound of the BBC monitor, a tool for engineers to hear exactly what was on the master tape, without flattery or embellishment.

This pursuit of accuracy led to their most famous innovation: the Uni-Q driver. By placing the tweeter in the acoustic center of the midrange cone, they created a single point-source of sound. The KEF "house sound" is the result of this technology. It is famous for its stunningly precise and stable imaging. The soundstage is not artificially wide; it is a holographic, three-dimensional space where instruments have a "walk-around" solidity. The presentation is one of supreme clarity and coherence, a clean, open window into the recording studio.

LS50

A modern legend. A compact monitor that delivers a holographic soundstage and a level of clarity that is astonishing for its size.

LS3/5a

The iconic BBC monitor. Though not a Uni-Q design, this KEF-driven classic is legendary for its magical, lifelike vocal reproduction.
